Art Museum of South Texas presents artRageous: Cirque du Fear (Corpus Christi)

artRageous is the Art Museum of South Texas’ yearly summer fundraising event. The art festival includes art activities, an art auction, and an art drawing. Each year is a different theme chosen by a committee. The theme for 2023 was artRageous: Cirque du Fear. The circus of your nightmares, and why would you go you ask? Because the money raised goes toward the Art Museum of South Texas’ educational programs and exhibitions BUT you’d also go because deep down your fears intrigue you. Artists like Degas to Calder have been drawn to and inspired by the circus, not just for its spectacle and intriguing imagery, but for the melancholy, alienation, and oddity the circus often represented. Pulling inspiration from the curiosities and imagery depicted in 19th and 20th century circus life, artRageous: Cirque du Fear presented a three-ring circus filled with inner liberation, exploration of fears, and the mystique of entertainment. The overarching theme for Cirque du Fear was acceptance of what makes us unique but often feeling strange. Each year artRageous is the Art Museum’s chance to welcome outsiders and educate on how art opens pathways, heals, and connects us. This year’s event sold out , a first in artRageous history and far surpassed the fundraising goal.
