Positioned perfectly along the banks of the Colorado River, Bastrop offers a myriad of outdoor adventures for visitors and locals alike. Whether it’s birding, hiking, zip-lining, fishing, swimming and more, Bastrop offers a little bit of everything to escape everyday life within.

At Bastrop State Park, explore the nearly 6,000 acres of outdoor space while admiring the famous loblolly pine trees, better known as “Lost Pines.” Here, visitors can venture along the scenic hiking trails that weave through the scented trees and primitive campsites while enjoying a secluded getaway. With Bastrop being home to 277 different species of birds and is located along the prolific route that millions of birds take on their way to South America and back during their biannual migration, Bastrop State Park is a go-to for birding.

Bastrop is also home to the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa. This resort is surrounded by endless natural beauty, making for a breathtaking backdrop to experience outdoor adventure. Here, visitors can experience an array of adventurous activities, such as trap shooting, pony rides, horseback riding, and more. Not to mention, the resort is adjacent to McKinney Roughs Nature Park connected by way of a trail system. McKinney Roughs allows an opportunity to explore wildflower meadows, lazy river bends and diverse wildlife by foot, horseback or through a guided raft or kayak trip.

Being just outside of the city, Bastrop is also a great escape for camping and glamping. Visitors can set up camp at places like Lake Bastrop North Shore Park, which features Airstreams, 11 RV campsites and eight tent campsites. Another option is The Hobbits Nest, which is built like a treehouse, so you can fulfill your childhood dreams of sleeping in a high-rise treehouse.
