People’s Choice | Destination for Foodies

Historic Downtown McKinney

With two dozen restaurants, multiple coffee houses, four winery/wine rooms, eight sweets shops, and a Farmer’s Market named the best in Texas and the Southwest, Historic Downtown McKinney is THE destination for foodies looking for the perfect spot to satisfy just about every craving. These businesses are individually-owned (not chains or franchises) with several having appeared on “best of” lists in magazines, newspapers, and TV shows across the state. Many of these are chef- driven and use locally sourced and fresh produce, meat, bread, and other items to build their menus. Patrons of these restaurants will enjoy a more intimate dining experience, too, than one would expect in most chain businesses, as they are housed in historic buildings that provide a distinctive atmosphere.

Foodies seeking a unique coffee experience need look no further than the coffee scene in McKinney’s historic district. Each of the downtown coffee houses has its own special character with menus of hot and cold drinks and bites. In 2023, coffee enthusiasts enjoyed three “Coffee Crawl” events hosted by the downtown coffee houses. These events proved to be extremely popular with more planned in 2024. Two of the historic district coffee shops have their own roasteries, too, and a third roastery will join the scene when TUPPS Brewery’s new location opens in Spring 2024. (It is one of several culinary- focused start-ups found on the brewery grounds.)

Making all of the culinary spots even more special is the fact that the majority of the eateries, wine rooms, and coffee shops also offer patio seating overlooking the beautiful and quaint historic district.

Foodies who love sweets will find all sorts of treats made in-house in more than a half-dozen Downtown McKinney shops offering everything from popcorn, cookies, and hand-made chocolates to pies, gelato, and even alcohol-infused ice cream.
