Alpine Downtown Murals
Full disclosure, Visit Alpine is a sponsor of the Texas Travel Awards.
There’s a lot bubbling beneath the surface in Alpine, including a grassroots arts initiative that’s led to more than 35 downtown murals. The works range from pieces inspired by the region’s history and ranching heritage to fantastical pop art and are produced by local artist volunteers and muralist Stylle Read, in collaboration with the annual Artwalk festival. Downtown property owners also participate, commissioning smaller murals by local and visiting artists, several of which are in an alley between Fifth and Sixth streets. The Big Bend Arts Council, Alpine Downtown Association, Sul Ross University, and City of Alpine also contribute to the development of this eye-catching small town public art experience that includes walking tours.
