The George Hotel

College Station

At this stylish hotel in the former rail stop-turned-university town, the “Go Big or Go Home” art piece by Thedra Cullar-Ledford is a literary love letter to the Lone Star State’s heritage, comprised of nearly 10,000 used books about Texas, including volumes on BBQ, native plants, Aggie texts, and historical novels. Inspired by the old barns of the Brazos Valley and dedicated to the late Barbara Pierce Bush, the “First Lady of Literacy,” the wall serves to educate and inspire guests to follow her example of selfless service through volunteerism, advocacy, and charitable giving to literacy causes. The George’s fundraising program, “Round Up for Reading,” allows visitors to advance Bush’s legacy by donating during their stay.
