Texas Hill Country Peaches

Fredericksburg

Full disclosure, Visit Fredericksburg advertises with Open Sky Media, Inc.

Gillespie County peaches are famous throughout Texas for good reason. Since the 19th century, farmers have cultivated stone fruit in Fredericksburg and Stonewall because the soil and climate yield exceptionally flavorful, juicy fruit; many orchards are still owned and operated by their descendants. Peach season runs from mid-May through mid-August; seek out heralded local varieties such as Dixieland and Loring at roadside stands, many of which also sell homemade ice cream, preserves, baked goods, and more. True aficionados should plan a visit around June’s Stonewall Peach Jamboree.
